Which Launch X431 tool can read and write VIN? How to do?
Many X431 tools (such as X431 V, X431 V+, X431 PAD V/PAD VII, etc) support VIN reading and writing by the [VIN Registration] special function.
For example:
Launch X431 PAD V register VIN on a 2017 Nissan XTrail T32 new ECM
Procedure:
1.Connect Pad5 and the Nissan car
2.Select [Local diagnosis] on the main menu
3.Then select NISSAN>> NISSAN Diagnostic software (i.e. V44.76)>> Full system diagnosis>> The vehicle with 16PIN>> System Selection>> Engine>> ECM (Engine Control Module)
4.Check the ECM state, it is equipped
5.Select Special Function>> VIN Registration
6.Confirm the ignition switch on and the engine stopped.
Hold these conditions during the procedure.
7.There are three options in the VIN Registration page: VIN/CHASSIS, VIN READ and VIN WRITE.
Click [VIN READ]
Input the VIN of the vehicle. Refer to S/M for location of identification plate
Then click “OK” and the VIN READ line shows the VIN value
8.Click [VIN WRITE]
Input the VIN once again, then click “OK” and the VIN WRITE line shows the VIN value
9.Click “Start”
Command succeed
Turn ignition switch off for 10 sec then ignition switch on to confirm no DTC
10. Double check:
Back to VIN Registration interface
You can see the VIN value appears on the VIN/CHASSIS line, which means the VIN number has already been registered on X-431 PAD V.
